Poem for My Friends

This Poem is For You, My Friends

By Mila D. Aguilar

The gods who would take over
Our God’s universe
Are big and small.
One is tall, lanky
Proud of gait
Though restrained now
By knowledge of the
He sends microbes into
Our bodies through the air
We breath and the food
We eat and yes, even the water
We drink, ridding the earth
Of half of its population
The better to rule.

These gods think
They could illuminate us
But our God’s Light shines
Above them all.
Despite the worms
Invading our wombs
Our colons our breasts
Our Redeemer lives.
He lives in the love
You have sent to me
And to all those who need
To overcome
The cancers sent
By these gods
Who would rule.

My Redeemer lives
In the fresh winds
Of your warmth
In the food you offer
Unmodified by any
Dark science of profit,
In the clear living water
Of the streams of your love
Unpolluted by desire.
And because
My Redeemer lives
I will continue
To live in you,
Fighting these gods
Who would rule,
Not to the death,
For our Redeemer lives,
But to eternal life
And His Kingdom,
Which will be the rule.
